The MINISFORUM MS-A2 is a mini workstation built for homelab, virtualization, and high-throughput networking, available with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX, Ryzen 9 8945HX, Ryzen 9 7945HX, or Ryzen 7 7745HX. The flagship Ryzen 9 9955HX is a Zen 5 processor with 16 cores, 32 threads, 64MB of L3 cache, a maximum boost clock of 5.4 GHz, and a 100W turbo TDP; the Ryzen 9 7945HX offers the same core count and boost clock on the Zen 4 architecture. What defines the MS-A2 is the combination of features it fits into a 1.78-litre chassis: two 10Gbps SFP+ ports, two 2.5GbE RJ45 ports, three NVMe storage positions with U.2 enterprise SSD support, and a physical PCIe x16 slot with bandwidth splitting. At 196 × 189 × 48 mm and 1.4 kg, with a lightweight metal structure and non-slip base pads, it delivers desktop-class core counts in a footprint that fits on a shelf or inside a cabinet. The MS-A2 supports up to 96GB of DDR5 memory across two SO-DIMM slots, running at DDR5-5600 with Ryzen 9000 series processors and DDR5-5200 with Ryzen 7000 series, delivering 89.6 GB/s of memory bandwidth against 51.2 GB/s for dual-channel DDR4-3200, with memory latency reduced to roughly 80 ns. Storage is arranged across three positions: one M.2 2280 slot that also accepts U.2 NVMe drives at PCIe 4.0 x4, supporting enterprise SSDs up to 15TB, and two M.2 2280 or 22110 slots supporting up to 4TB each. The two secondary slots default to PCIe 3.0 x4 and can be switched to PCIe 4.0 x4 in the BIOS, which is worth checking after installation since the default setting halves available bandwidth. Consumer configurations reach 12TB total at up to 7000 MB/s per drive; adding a 15TB U.2 enterprise drive raises maximum capacity to 23TB. RAID 0 and RAID 1 are supported, with RAID 0 transfer speeds reaching 13,000 MB/s.Networking on the MS-A2 combines two 10Gbps SFP+ ports driven by an Intel X710 controller with two 2.5GbE RJ45 ports, one using a Realtek RTL8125 controller and one using an Intel I226-V controller. Four independent interfaces allow WAN, LAN, DMZ, and management segmentation on a single device, which is what makes the system practical as a firewall appliance or as a virtualization node with separate storage and client networks. Using two different 2.5GbE controllers also helps in environments where driver support differs between operating systems, since one interface is likely to work even if the other needs attention. The built-in expansion slot is physically PCIe x16 with PCIe 4.0 x8 bandwidth, and it supports splitting into two PCIe 4.0 x4 links, so a single slot can carry either one graphics or accelerator card or two separate expansion cards, such as an additional network adapter alongside a storage controller. Wireless is Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth.Graphics are handled by the integrated AMD Radeon 610M running at 2200 MHz, which is sufficient for multi-display administration, console work, and general desktop use while leaving heavier graphics tasks to a card installed in the PCIe slot. Buyers should note that the 610M is a basic integrated GPU rather than a Radeon 890M-class part, so this system is not intended for gaming or GPU-accelerated rendering without an add-in card. Rear connectivity includes two USB-C ports at USB 3.2 Gen2 speeds with DisplayPort 2.0 Alt Mode supporting up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 144Hz, one HDMI 2.1 port supporting up to 8K at 60Hz, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port, and one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port. The front panel carries two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm combo jack. Cooling uses a triple pure-copper heat pipe architecture, phase change material, and a turbine fan with aerodynamic vortex grooves that increases system airflow by 30 percent. Power comes from a 19V/12.63A external adapter, and the system ships with Windows 11.Common use cases for the MINISFORUM MS-A2 include Proxmox and VMware virtualization hosts where 16 cores and 96GB of DDR5 support more than 20 concurrent virtual machines, pfSense and OPNsense firewall appliances using the four segmented network interfaces, TrueNAS and ZFS storage nodes that pair a 15TB U.2 enterprise SSD with consumer NVMe drives, Kubernetes and LXC container labs needing high thread counts for workload density, software compilation and CI runners, and 10GbE workgroup file serving for video production. Buyers typically choose the MS-A2 over the Intel-based MS-01 when they want 32 threads instead of 20 and a splittable PCIe slot, and accept Radeon 610M graphics and Wi-Fi 6E in exchange. Buyers needing copper 10GBASE-T should note that the 10Gbps ports here are SFP+ and require a compatible transceiver module or DAC cable; the MS-03 and M2 Pro provide copper 10GbE on RJ45 instead. Buyers needing more than two memory slots should look at the MS-02 Ultra.
